Position: I’m a project engineer. I plan and run capital projects to improve the plant’s operation. Lately we have been doing projects that center around reducing the plant’s air emissions. Dryer House 5 was the biggest example of this over the last couple years. We installed a new wet precipitator scrubber last year to further reduce our emissions. I also do projects at GPC’s other plant in Washington, Indiana. I’ll be spitting my time between the two plants this summer. Lots of windshield time.
Favorite Local Restaurant: Yacky Shack. Korean beef fried rice, extra house sauce please!
College/Major: Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University. Go Huskies!
What do you like to do for fun? Endurance sports. Running, cycling, swimming. You’ll probably see me running up Mulberry a lot. I’ve also been known to play hockey (poorly) with the Pearl City Black Storm. My fiancé and I enjoy back-country camping too. Living in Iowa can make it a challenge to fit that in though.
Why did you join YPN? I didn’t know a single person when I moved to Muscatine 5 years ago. The HR rep at GPC told me to join YPN on my first day. It was a great way to meet people, particularly people I don’t work with.
What is your favorite YPN event? Anything at Boonies or the Brew. Getting a brew burger on a summer evening at a YPN Third Thursday is probably my favorite though.
What event would you like to see YPN do? I think we cover things pretty well. Maybe a habitat for humanity day or a MCSA volunteering day? I think we’ve done those in the past.
Anything else? Living in Muscatine is as exciting or as boring as you decide to make it. You can decide to get out and do things in the community, meet people, and build a life. You can also decide to sit in your apartment and complain about how you don’t live in a metropolis. I’ve done both. The former is lots more fun. Every year I live here I miss living in a big city less and less. If you told me 6 years ago that I would be living in Iowa, own 20 egg laying chickens, and be engaged to an Iowa farm girl, I would have called you a liar. But sometimes you just need go with it.
