2016 YP of the Year: Lindsey Phillips

Category : YP of the Year

Each year, YPN recognizes one member who has proven themselves to be dedicated to the betterment of Muscatine and the YPN organization. This year, the leadership group has unanimously selected Lindsey Phillips, current director of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program. We reached out to some of those who work with Lindsey to get a more rounded picture of her dedication:

“Lindsey first started at Big Brothers Big Sisters as enrollment and matching staff, recruiting, interviewing, training and matching children with adult and high school volunteers. She was generally the first face volunteers, kids and their families saw upon enrolling in the program. She treated everyone with kindness and generosity, making them feel welcome and at ease. Upon transitioning into the role as program director, she continues to exude that same hands-on approach, welcoming Bigs, Littles and their families  Her commitment to the program has never wavered as she upholds the mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.” – Jessica H.

The leadership group at YPN is extremely grateful for the work that Lindsey does each and every day to make sure that our events are well-organized and that our members know what other activities are upcoming. Lindsey is most often the first in line to volunteer herself for any project.

Congratulations Lindsey, you are a great asset to our group.

YPN believes it is important that we continue to recognize those individuals who have helped to make this organization work and grow and who remain role models in our community.  We would like to do this by honoring Christi Saunders, who worked for the Grain Processing Corp as an Engineer and who has been actively involved with YPN since moving to Muscatine, with the YPN of the Year Award.  Christi has been chairperson, past chair and chair of the membership committee on the Leadership Council for several years. She also served on GMCCI’s board for the past years as past chairperson of YPN. YPN has flourished under Christi’s leadership and became the organization it is today.  She played an instrumental role in revamping the strategic plan for this organization and bringing in new members. She is fabulous at making everyone feel welcomed!

Not only is Christi involved with YPN, but she was involved with Leadership Muscatine, Muscatine Volleyball league and very active in volunteering throughout our community.

Christi not only continues to support YPN even after a new job has taken her away from Muscatine, but actively recruits new members to our organization regularly. Without her support & dedication, YPN would not be what it is today.

Please help us in thanking Christi Saunders for her extraordinary efforts with YPN and to present to her the YPN of the Year Award for 2014!

2013 YP of the Year: Nick Gow

Category : YP of the Year

Thank you Greg and to the Chamber for their continued support of YPN. We strongly agree that YPN is vital to the growth of our young professionals in this community. Becoming involved with our group allows them to develop lasting contacts,  to become more involved in our community and hopefully to show them why they should stay in Muscatine. YPN would not be able to continue to do these things without first, the continued support of the Chamber (special thanks to Jodi, Ally and Katy), the overwhelming support from the businesses in our community (HNI, Allsteel, HON, Monsanto, Central State Bank, and Stanley Consultants – just to name a few), and the members who show up to each and every event or volunteer opportunity we are involved with. I would also like to give a huge thank you to our Leadership Council who work very hard to keep the organization going in the direction we want it to be and who are currently working on revamping our strategic plan in order to do so.

Here with us tonight are:

Stephanie Little with Central State Bank as Social Committee Chair

Travis Cutler with Trissel Graham & Toole as Community & Professional Development Chair

Trista Sotelo with Central State Bank as Public Relations Chair and Secretary

Not with us tonight:

Christi Saunders with Grain Processing Corp as our LC Chair

Page Althoff with HON Company as our Membership Committee Chair

Jordan Miller with Central State Bank as our Treasurer

Last, but not least, thank you to our families who continue to support us spending a little more time away from home to volunteer our time to make this a community we want to raise our families in. We even dragged a few of them here with us tonight!

With all that being said, YPN believes it is important that we continue to recognize those individuals who have helped to make this organization work and grow and who remain role models in our community.  We would like to do this by honoring Nick Gow, who works for the City of Muscatine as the Athletic Facilities Manager and who has been involved with YPN since its inception in 2005, with the YPN of the Year Award.  Nick has been chairperson as well as past chair on the Leadership Council for several years. Nick also served on GMCCI’s board for two years as past president of YPN. YPN flourished under Nick’s leadership and became the organization it is today.  Some of the events that Nick spearheaded were Revelry by the River and our Annual Glow Ball Tournament. Nick has also been involved with YP Iowa and served as president and  past president of the YP Iowa Board.

Not only is Nick involved with YPN, but he was involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for over 8 years.  He was a dedicated big brother and truly exemplified what it meant to be a role model .  He also currently serves on YP Iowa, the Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Chamber Ambassador Network and participates in the Blue Zones Walking Moai and Wine @ 5.

Nick not only continues to support YPN, but actively participates on our committees and recruits new members to our organization regularly. Without his support, YPN would not be what it is today.

Please help us in thanking Nick Gow for his extraordinary efforts with YPN and to present to him the YPN of the Year Award for 2013!

2012 YP of the Year

(Left to Right: Brandy Olson/Recipient, Nick Gow/Immediate Past Chair, Andrea Scott/Chairperson of YPN)

As the Young Professionals Network of Muscatine celebrated our 7th year as a professional organization, the current Leadership Council wanted to take the opportunity look back and recognize the young professionals who have helped, and continue to help, develop the organization into what it is today, and continue to provide professional leadership to our community.  To recognize these individuals for their achievements, YPN has developed a Young Professional of the Year Award.

The inaugural Young Professional of the Year Award for 2012 went to Brandy Olson. YPN is proud to recognize her as an individual who was instrumental in the development and success of the Young Professionals Network of Muscatine.  The organizational skills and leadership that she has brought to the table helped to attract young professional leaders to join the first Leadership Council.  The professional knowledge of organizational structures and governing documents were vital to the operation of YPN.  Her knowledge and involvement in our community helped to attract young professionals from many professions throughout our community.

Brandy has also shown their leadership skills throughout our community for many years.  She has been involved with the Business and Professional Women organization and served as President in the past, and was also a state officer for the Business and Professional Women of Iowa.  She is the Past President of the United Way of Muscatine, and currently serves as the President of the Muscatine Community Y Board.  She has also served on the Civil Service Commission for several years as well as many other committees’ throughout Muscatine.

Congratulations Brandy on a well-deserved achievement and thank you for all you have done for YPN!
