Member Spotlight: Sarah Tisinger

Having graduated from Iowa State University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication, Sarah Tisinger joined the Muscatine Journal daily newspaper in early 2014 as a crimes and court beat reporter. In that time, she has covered two murder trials, interviewed multiple new local business owners, acted as a “victim” during the firefighter’s ice rescue training and even (accidentally) ended up in a campaign ad for Iowa Governor Terry Branstad. She had written several feature-length articles with photos that have been printed in newspapers throughout the country, highlighting Muscatine’s local businesses and individuals.
During her years in college, Sarah was able to briefly travel and study in Ireland. Those experiences have inspired her fiction writing and a short story in the works. In her spare time Sarah can be found in coffee shops blogging, selling homemade laundry detergent and enjoying time outdoors with her two Siberian huskies, Niko and Kia.
As a native and long-term resident of the Quad Cities, Sarah has found enjoyment in the locally run shops and restaurants of downtown Muscatine. The diversity Muscatine has to offer in culture, education and community programming has not been found in other towns in which she’s lived.
Although her varied work schedule can make it difficult, she tries to attend as many YPN events as possible to meet other young professionals making a difference in Muscatine. Make sure to follow her on Twitter @SBTisinger to keep in touch with local court cases, breaking news and local event coverage.
